Nico Hischier, the first overall draft pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, came to New Jersey at the age of 18. He quickly showed his speed and skills which not only earned him a spot on the Devils roster, but also made him a fan favorite. Although we can show highlights of this Devil all day, we have a few other fun facts that might make you love him just a little bit more.
This Devils forward started playing hockey at the age of three. He not only played hockey, but also played soccer and tennis, and skied growing up. One of his hobbies to this day is playing tennis. In fact, his favorite non-hockey athlete growing up was Roger Federer, and he's still a big fan.
When he's not playing hockey, you can find Nico watching Prison Break or Narcos, his favorite TV shows, or playing Fortnite. You might even find him eating Italian food or jamming out to his favorite artist, Post Malone. Regardless, you can bet that when he goes on vacation, it'll be somewhere with a beach, as that's all he looks for during a break.
The Devils forward also loves spending time with his family, which he's very close with. They supported his dream and his parents, Rino and Katja, made sure the 19-year old always knew they were proud of him and he had a place back home.
He was able to not only see his family but play in front of them in his home country during the team's 2018 NHL Global Series trip at the beginning of this season. The Devils made a stop in Bern, Switzerland, to finish their preseason campaign and Nico received quite the welcome home.
And lastly, one of Nico's favorite things to do throughout the Devils season is interact with the fans, as their support means the world to him.
