Canadiens sign Chris Wideman to two-year contract extension

June 6th, 2022 by Sportsnet

The Montreal Canadiens and defenceman Chris Wideman have agreed to a two-year contract extension, the team announced Monday.

Though the terms of the deal were not made public, Sportsnet’s Eric Engels learned the contract is for $750,000 in the first season and $775,000 in the second season, all salary.

Wideman, who was selected 100th overall in the 2009 NHL Draft by the Ottawa Senators, joined the Canadiens on a one-year, $750,000 deal in July of 2021. He scored four goals and added 23 assists across 64 games with Montreal last season.

The 32-year-old has appeared in 245 NHL games so far in his career, scoring 20 goals and assisting on 52 others while playing for the Senators, Canadiens, Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers.
